OCEANSIDE, Calif., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Training, Education & Research Institute (TERI) led International Association for Life Quality (IALQ) - a national leader dedicated to identifying and removing barriers to a quality life for those with developmental disabilities - announced scholarships for Special Needs Life Quality Plans(TM) will be available to underserved families with a child with autism or other developmental disability. The scholarships were made possible through a grant provided by the National Foundation for Autism Research (NFAR).
Special Needs Life Quality Plans(TM) provide families and caregivers a highly detailed profile and "happiness" roadmap, reporting on a parent and/or primary caregiver's experiences, expertise, and knowledge, as well as subtle nuances distinctive to the individual for whom the plan is designed.
"We are grateful to NFAR for the grant, giving us the ability to assist parents of a child with special needs in the creation of a Special Needs Life Quality Plan(TM), which becomes a guidepost of care for their child throughout their lifetime," says Dr. Krysti DeZonia, Director of IALQ.
NFAR recently awarded its Research Grants and Autism Teachers Grants, which were made possible by the proceeds of the 2009 San Diego Race for Autism.
"We were thrilled to provide funding for scholarships to families for Special Needs Life Quality Plans(TM)," said Sharon Leon, Executive Director of NFAR. "Life Quality Plans are a tool families can use in a variety of ways - from camp counselors to caregivers, anyone who reads a plan will have a clear understanding of the needs of the particular individual and can help to ensure a life of quality throughout their life span."
Also available to parents, or other interested individuals, is IALQ's next in a series of free webinars. On February 16, 2010, at 4 p.m. PST, Dr. DeZonia will be presenting: Special Needs Life Coaching - A New Business Consulting Opportunity in the Helping Profession. The webinar focuses on how people can make a difference as a Special Needs Life Coach(TM), what it is, why it's needed, who makes the perfect coach and how you can find one.
For more information about how to apply for Special Needs Life Quality Plans(TM), or to register for the Free Webinar, visit www.ialq.org or by calling 1-760-721-1706.
For 30 years, TERI has been committed to improving the quality of lives for children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities, and their families. In 2009, TERI established IALQ to educate, advocate and propagate programs and services focusing on quality of life issues without being hindered by geographic boundaries.
The National Foundation for Autism Research (NFAR) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of innovative treatment programs and options that improve the quality of life for children living with autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
